Web design
All designs are individually tuned towards the artist, maker's or organisation's work, both visually and conceptually. Time is spent to gain an understanding of the work in question so that a considered and thoughtful design can be created. The design style is one of clarity, simplicity and originality. No templated designs are used.
Photography
The quality of a website depends very much on the quality of its photographic content and this is particularly more the case with artist websites. Platform recommends the taking of professional digital photographs before embarking on the website and can offer advice in this field if required.
Site graphics
Platform will often create name or logo graphics that compliment any previous promotional material, or create new graphics should these be required that will fit with the website look. Should you wish the design look to be carried through to future promotional material, Platform can design artwork for this too.
Flash movies
Many of the websites designed use some component of flash, whether it is an opening flash movie page, in the navigation menu or in the portfolio. A fine balance is set between creating subtlety which flash is perfect for, at the time as giving the viewer ease of access and speed to the site. The amount of flash used is carefully considered when beginning a new web project, taking into consideration the type of work being shown. Search engine optimisation
Complete within each website design is the building of a necessary structure that will aid search engine optimisation. However the optimising of any site is an ongoing process and will benefit from monitoring and reviewing on a continual basis.
Site stats emailed to you each month
Platform inserts an invisible counter into your web pages when they are designed. Each month the results of site stats can be emailed to you with information on number of hits, geographical location, pages viewed, referring url etc.
Web hosting + Email + Webmail
Platform can arrange web hosting and domain name purchase for you. Many of its design packages include the hosting for the first year, with it renewed thereafter on an annual basis. As part of this, webmail can also be arranged enabling you to access your mail wherever you may be. For those wishing to set up email accounts through Outlook, advice on how to do this can also be given. Each website domain will come with unlimited email addresses for use with your domain.
Database integration
Platform works with partner, Dotcom, to create intelligent database solutions that may be required for a site. These include online shops, database driven websites, built-in search engines for instance for a picture gallery, membership log-ins and any e-commerce taking online creditcard payments. Prices for these elements will be quoted for separately from the main design of the site. Prices
Platform bases its prices on the overall size of the proposed site, and on the complexity involved. There is no price per page, per image or per flash movie included as such but rather a price will be quoted for that will encompass the site as a whole. The ethos behind the design is to create a site that suits the work it is promoting and using whatever design skills are required to achieve this, as opposed to offering possibly unrequired add-ons. Differing rates are offered for artists, charitable arts organisations and commercial businesses. Flexible payment terms exist for artist websites whereby full payment can be made over the duration of the web project.
